Look at Me

When you look at me I see a world waiting to be discovered, 

A future that is so bright that I couldn’t imagine anyone else being in your place. 

I see what could be,

A union,

An understanding,

A happy life. 

My perspective is that of an admirer in awe,

Amazed by the kindness of a person who wasn’t afforded the same in their life. 

I look at you and I am thankful of the man you have helped me become today,

And the growth of man that you have helped me to be tomorrow. 

I see so much in your bright orbs of light,

The fight for a better world but yet struggling to understand your own. 

You are the most inspiring and thoughtful person I have ever met,

Yet you never pay yourself the same kindness. 

When you look at me,

Well,

I know it’s not the same. 

At least I know now that it’s not the same. 

You see a man trying to be the best he can but,

All you will ever see is someone you spend restless evenings on the phone to. 

When you are sad it is my phone you call to talk about your struggle,

And though you always ask I never know how to tell you. 

I want to tell you the truth about the way I feel,

It’s tough as the time is never right and my woes never feel worthy of your time. 

I want to tell you the truth about the way I feel,

But now,

I know the truth. 

You will never look at me the way you look at him.

You will never see that future in my eyes. 

You will never see the amazing adventure we could have.

Because you will never look at me.

When you look at me my heart swells,

But it’s time I understand that it will never be true. 

I see it all now,

Whilst you chose him, I chose you.
